MOST COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS
				AND PROBLEMS

1. What is my car worth? We receive two or three calls a day concerning the
value of the cars. First, we offer an appraisal service for your car. I am
a qualified appraiser (also an ex-insurance adjuster) and have dealt with
numerous insurance companies regarding our customers’ cars. The fee for an
appraisal is $50. We cannot do phone appraisals. For appraisal information call.
A good guide to pick up is the OLD CARS WEEKLY PRICE GUIDE. This will give you
the general values of Cougars as well as anything else on the market. You can
find it at many newsstands. By the way, you should always carry a stated value
insurance policy on any restored car.

2. How many did they build? We also get several calls a week on this question.
We have included the production figures here for your use. Also, please see
the Cougars by the Numbers book in the LITERATURE SECTION. It will tell you
exactly how many of your car was built with what options, etc.

4. Do you have the solenoid for 1967 headlights? No. That part is not available.
The fix is to use a 68 headlight switch ($79.95) and route the vacuum hoses through
the firewall to it. This will take care of the problem. We also have the 67/68
rebuilt headlight vacuum motors ($115 exchange) if you have a
problem there.

5. My 69/70 headlight doors stay up what’s wrong? You have a leak in the vacuum
system at the headlight vacuum motor, the reservoir tank, manual open control
or the check valve located above the master cylinder. A 69 vacuum manual will
help you track these problems down ($7). We now also offer rebuilt 1969-70 vacuum
motors for $115 exchange. These have a one year parts and labor warranty.

6. My sequential tall lights don’t work what’s wrong? On the 67/68 the mechanical
brain is often dead. We have an electronic replacement for this. For the 69-73,
we also have an electronic replacement. SEE ELECTRICAL.

7. My automatic shifter is loose and wobbles. I also have hot air coming up through
the hole what’s wrong? You need the shifter seal & bushing kit. This is a simple
fix. See the AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SECTION.

8. My 1969 windows have fallen out what do I do? Ford, in its infinite wisdom,
decided to glue in all the 1969 model windows. (They went back to bolts-ins in
1970.) The glue has let loose in almost all the cars by now. To reglue them properly
you will need a special channel bond adhesive. The special adhesive and applicator
gun runs about $100. Therefore, it is best to take your car to a glass shop to have
the windows reglued. The other fix is to replace your 1969 glass with 1970 bolt
in glass. However, you will need to replace all four windows and the front regulators
or it won’t work. We can sell you these parts also. PLEASE NOTE: If you are trying
to do a concours restoration changing to 1970 glass will cost you points.

9. Do you have dash pads for 1967-73? We now have a reproduction for the 1967-68.
These come in black, blue and red and sell for $369.95. For 1969-70, there is no
reproduction. However, we now have a very nice dash cap for $109.95. We always have
good used in stock so call for prices and availability. For 1971-73, we have an
excellent dash cap available for $99.95.

10. I want to switch my 1967-70 from standard to XR7 instrumentation. What do I do?
Go buy an XR7! To change from standard to XR7 instrumentation, you have to change
all the instruments and wiring harnesses which is a very expensive and time consuming
project. In our opinion, it is not worth the trouble. Therefore, if you want an
XR7 go buy one.

SOME PERSONAL NOTES AND OBSERVATIONS

You didn’t ask for it, but here is some advice anyway. If you are looking to buy a
Cougar and/or are a first time buyer, buy the best car you can afford. You are far
better off buying a car that is in good shape than in trying to save money and buy a
rust bucket or car that has been wrecked or heavily modified. This is especially
true if you don’t have the ability or facilities to restore a car. Remember this
rule when looking at restoring a car: You will always spend more than you think you
will no matter how much you think you will spend. When you go to purchase a car,
always take someone with you who knows what they are looking at if you don’t. Your
number one enemy in restoring your car is rust. Never ever buy a car that runs fine,
has a nice interior and only needs fenders, doors, quarters, floor pans, hood and deck
lid. Believe it or not, I have had people call checking prices on these parts for
cars in this condition. The last rule: Never ever buy a car sight unseen. I don’t
care how honest you think the people are go look at the car. If you are too cheap or
can’t afford a plane ticket to look at a car, you don’t have any business buying it
anyway. If you need an expert opinion on a car, call us and we can make arrangements
to appraise the car for a fee.

A word about our parts and services. I personally choose what goes into this catalog
and what doesn’t. In many cases there is more than one supplier or manufacturer of a
specific part. Not all parts are created equal. There are several reproduction parts
from weatherstrip to sheet metal that I wouldn’t consider putting on one of my cars.
Usually these parts are cheaper than the good parts. As we don’t sell what I consider
to be second rate parts, you may find that some of our prices are somewhat higher than
those found in some of our competitors’ catalogs. The best usually costs a little more.
Furthermore, we don’t sell seconds or “slightly irregular” parts. If you are looking
for the cheapest parts out there you’ll need to look elsewhere. If you are interested
in restoring your car give us a call and we will discuss it with you. Restoring a
classic car is an expensive hobby. So if you are going to restore one, buy what makes
you happy not what you think will be the best investment. You’re going to spend a lot
of time and money on the car so you’d better like it! As to our services, we are still
the only exclusively Cougar parts and restoration business in the country and proud of
it. Because of this, we can give our customers the answers to their restoration
questions that they can’t find elsewhere.

Finally, when you call you will be talking to Ken, not some order taker who doesn’t have
a clue about the cars. I answer the phone and let my staff do the shipping. We all do
our jobs better that way. So, if you want first quality parts at competitive prices and
the benefit of my years of experience with these cars, give us a call.
